There Is A Season

There Is A Season

Most people would have heard the song Turn,Turn, Turn popularized by the Byrds in !965. In the song, written by Pete Seeger in !959, he uses words from Ecclesiastes in the Holy Bible. To everything there is a season and a reason to every purpose under heaven. A season can represent many things and because we don't know when our days on this earth will end our seasons of life can be very individualistic.

I'm quite sure we aren't aware of our seasons and what the message of the song says is that each season may contain it's own purpose for a particular time. This makes sense because there are things we cannot do at an old age and things we can't do at a young age because we don't know enough about the world with our limited life experiences. Our individual seasons can be different because we are all unique.  To even value the words of the song could be a lot harder for a young person as they would have to more solely trust the writer to believe that it is wisdom that is speaking.

This song came about at a time when younger people were listening to the words of the writers of the day. They were looking for something worth following. There was a cost to going through that door but it is the door to meaning. I feel that there is a great deal of disillusionment in our world today and probably more for younger people. In the song, or the scripture it spells out seasons where we need or should apply ourselves differently according to wisdom in order to answer the questions of the times. During the 1960's young people were standing up for peace, questioning the ruling authorities and saying that they wanted no part of the governing agenda. We are again in turbulent times, a time to stand and a time to cast away stones. There are fit times for all the seasons so the writer of Ecclesiastes tells us, and some will be very challenging. Most importantly our present world is in a season where we the people, need wisdom to reign paramount. Check out Turn, Turn, Turn by the Byrds and Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. What season are you in?
