Is The Fast Lane Really The Slow Lane?

Is The Fast Lane Really The Slow Lane?

There is a battle going on for your attention. Did you hear me? Are you sure? That saying,"everybody wants a piece of me"is truer than ever for most people. Everyone wants your attention and they're vying for it. Are you still with me? Such strategic tactics to suck you in like a vacuum cleaner to someone's products, health aids, insurance, games, sports, music, ideology, social justice, you name it. As long as you don't have time to think it through they've got a chance. People only have so much time to give and it's such a fast paced world. The idea unfolds; cramming as much as you can into your life and your brain. Its like being in a casino of slot machines and everyone's in a trance. Having less money might help slow a person down but I"m sure it would drive that person further down the road to milking social media.

As I put my music out on social media platforms I've come to realize just how fierce this battle is. Poetic music involves time to listen and ponder. It doesn't really fit into a fast food type scenario. Although I see some value in on line marketing I mainly have to let people find me. It is my opinion that recorded music better lends itself to CD's or vinyl records where it can be listened to as a group of songs in a specific order. Songs that were crafted during a particular time in an artists life. Then it is received as a complete work. Still with me? This was the norm at one time but the world at large has changed. Were we really listening? Was it really background noise for a generation of folks living in the most prosperous time ever? Did we need to listen for meaning?

Searching for meaning has become like bobbing for apples and while we're bobbing, someone is pouring more apples in the tub. Nothing is slowing down. The idea is to bombard you. "Throw enough sh@#&t at a blanket and some of it's bound to stick". Where does it end? I don't see any of this as being healthy. I'm no scientist but it surely must be changing the way the brain processes information. When you eat a tasty meal you savour every bite and certainly, given the choice, don't gulp it down. The battle rages on like the rush hour in the morning. I've resigned myself to relax and have fun with the music stuff. I'm in the slow lane for sure but there is a peace there underneath it all. Time to listen, ponder and escape the rat race. Maybe in the midst of this we might find some deeper meaning to this life. If you managed to get to the end of this blog then your in the slow lane. But is the fast lane really the slow lane?
